Frequently Asked Questions

Custom stone projects, answered.

What file formats does Stoneyard accept for custom stone fabrication?

We accept PDF, DWG, DXF, and image files for project drawings and stone schedules. Hand sketches with verified dimensions are also acceptable. Shop drawings are returned for approval before fabrication begins.

What’s the typical lead time for custom architectural stone?

Most projects ship 4 to 8 weeks from approved drawings, depending on material availability, fabrication scope, and finish complexity. Imported materials, large quantities, or specialty finishes may extend lead time. We confirm a hard lead-time at the line-item estimate stage.

What stone materials does Stoneyard fabricate to specification?

Pennsylvania Bluestone, Indiana Limestone, granite (Mesabi Black, Charcoal, Academy, Salisbury Pink, Caledonia, Stanstead Gray, and others on request), marble (Vermont, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, plus Carrara, Calacatta, and other Italian varieties), basalt, and quartzite. Other domestic and imported stones available on request. Mexican Beach Pebbles and granite cobblestone are supplied to construction sequence.

Can Stoneyard match an existing stone for an addition or restoration?

Yes. For natural thin stone veneer matching, the fastest path is the Stoneyard Stone Finder — submit photos and we recommend the closest match. For dimensional cut stone like coping or sills, provide the existing stone’s specifications, photos, and project drawings — we identify the closest material and confirm with a physical sample before fabrication.

Does Stoneyard ship custom stone projects nationwide?

Yes. We ship architectural stone to projects across the United States. Crating and freight are handled by Stoneyard for residential estates and commercial sites; delivery is sequenced to your construction schedule.

Who does Stoneyard work with on custom projects?

Architects, designers, builders, masonry contractors, and homeowners with complete project specifications. Most projects coordinate through architects or builders; homeowners can submit directly when drawings are in hand. For installation, we partner with the Find a Pro network of qualified contractors.

Are samples available for custom stone materials?

Yes. Material samples for the standard line — Pennsylvania Bluestone, Indiana Limestone, granite, marble, basalt, and quartzite — ship to your project address on request. You can also see materials in person through our network of dealers. For custom cuts, finishes, or imported stone, we confirm specifications and provide photos before fabrication, with physical control samples available for larger projects.

What finishes are available on custom architectural stone?

Standard finishes include thermal, honed, polished, sandblasted, sawn, split-faced, flamed, picked, rock-faced, and natural cleft. Available finishes depend on stone type — granite supports polished and flamed; limestone supports honed, sandblasted, and picked; bluestone supports thermal and natural cleft. Project-specific finishes available by request.
