Surround a Wood Stove with Heat-Releasing Stone
Applications: Fireplaces, Interior Walls Location: Maine
This stone stove wall was built by a DIY homeowner for his retirement home on an island off the coast of Maine. This was the first time he had ever installed natural thin stone veneer. The project stone is Vineyard Granite Square & Rec. This homeowner states “I like that it will be 1200 lbs of thermal mass to release heat after the stove dies down.” The heat-releasing factor of a stone stove wall is often overlooked when installing a wood stove. Natural stone retains heat and this homeowner is correct in the assessment of additional thermal release as the stove cools as compared to a sheetrock wall.
